Daily Devotion: Pray Expectantly in the Presence of the Lord

“Listen to my words, Lord,
    consider my lament.
Hear my cry for help,
    my King and my God,
    for to you I pray.

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
    in the morning I lay my requests before you
    and wait expectantly.
For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness;
    with you, evil people are not welcome.
The arrogant cannot stand
    in your presence.
You hate all who do wrong;
     you destroy those who tell lies.
The bloodthirsty and deceitful
    you, Lord, detest.
But I, by your great love,
    can come into your house;
in reverence I bow down
    toward your holy temple.” – Psalm 5:1-7

Daily Devotion: The In-between Times

Daily Devotion: Solid Ground

“I love you, Lord, my strength.

  The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
    my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” – Psalm 18:1-2

This is a Psalm of David. The imagery of God being a “rock”, “refuge”, “stronghold”, and “salvation” take on extra meaning when we think of all the time David spent running from his enemies from hiding in caves and mountain strongholds. For long seasons of time, David’s life was unstable. He was continually on the run and on the move, he even spent time as an exile from his country. To top it off, David hadn’t done anything wrong. His life was turned completely upside down because of Saul’s sin. It was a complete injustice.

Daily Devotion: Forsaken by God

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me,
    so far from my cries of anguish?
 My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
    by night, but I find no rest.” – Psalm 22:1-2

In our deep distress we can feel abandoned by everyone, even God. These are the dark days that come as a result of living in a fallen and broken world and being fallen and broken ourselves. When we feel forsaken, there are three things to remember:
